Inquiry-based learning is a constructivist approach where students have ownership of their learning. It starts with exploration and questioning and leads to investigation of a significant question, issue, problem or idea. It involves asking questions, gathering and analysing information, generating solutions, making decisions, justifying conclusions and taking action. (http://www.inquiringmind.co.nz/WhatIsInquiry.htm 2014).

In the latter part of 2012, I was granted permission from the authors of Guided Inquiry Design: A Framework for Inquiry in Your School, Carol Kuhlthau, Leslie Maniotes and Ann Caspari, to develop a scope and sequence typing the five kinds of learning to the inquiry skills and general capabilities in the Australian Curriculum.

Version 1 of the scope and sequence is now available at F-10 Inquiry Skills Scope and Sequence together with an F-10 Core Skills and Tools.

I hope you will find this document a very useful planning tool when designing of your classroom programs.
